    Survey Return
Thank you all for your suggestions. I was going to have the students take them home as one of the option. If they return it, then I was going to put their name in hat for a prize. I was going to follow-up and have a parent workshop and ask them to fill it out at the meeting.

    Great idea
You stated something that was key - "the school is there to raise their kids". It is hard for me to grasp when you call home and parents are upset when you try to give them a heads up to help their child. I hope I get great information and tools to use to recruit parental involvement.

    B. If you are going to conduct interviews, develop a script for an interview protocol that you will use to collect data. See Creswell, p. 183 for a great example of a qualitative interview script.
    C. If you are using other forms of data collection, describe the protocols that you will use to collect your data. For example, if you are asking participants to keep a reflective journal of their experiences and you intend for those journals to be “data” in your project, think about the types of reflective questions that you would ask of your participants.
In an undergrad anthropology class I took, I had to conduct interviews. I interview four "subjects" that represented different cultural backgrounds. This process was very long, but the information was so rich. I recorded the conversations, then I went back and wrote down the conversation verbatim. From my notes I created themes. This worked well, but again it was a long task. For this project I plan to conduct surveys for the students and parents(which is a large population), but I will have focus groups which will represent the Site Coordinators (2 groups of 6). I will have pre-set guided questions, but I will let the conversation flow and develop themes from that point.

    Great idea
Shantiqua, this is such an understudied area that needs much more attention. Parents need to know and understand how important it is that they are active in communicating with the teacher, the administration, and various community members. Students are less likely to get into trouble when parents and community members are involved. This is by far one of the hardest things to convince parents of...today, many parents just assume that the school is there to raise their kids and teach them how to behave and why.

    Survey Return
Just out of experience, this is a good idea. I have used both. I give students a take home folder that goes with them atthe end of the day and is returned each day. this works well. I have also requested that parents return particular forms to the front office or send a stamped/addressed envelop for them to mail it back. You can also try using some sort of incentive...students can get some sort of treat...set up so that the top 5 classes to bring in the most surveys gets an icecream party or pizza party. The schools usually go along with these incentives. As far as incentives for parents you could use coupons from local vendors or restaurants. Just an idea.

    d) What other thoughts do you have this week? Feel free to talk about your projects, ongoing technology issues, ask questions – whatever! I’ve enjoyed reading these reflections each week, and the information is useful to me especially as I consider new and different uses of technology in our program.
Fustrated, emotional and nervous - computer crashed, my students are graduating and I found out that I will be at a new site next year.
    1. Technology Reflection 5
    A. This week I would like you to think about how the connection between instructional technology and the potential for creativity. What does creativity mean to you in the learning process? Do you think that the technology that we are employing in this class facilitates creativity? In what ways?
    B. If you don’t feel like the technology facilitates creativity, could it? In other words, what could we do with the technology to allow for more creativity in exploring our own project topics and areas of research interest?
    C. Revisit the three learning goals for HEHD 892 (see the syllabus). How does the technology that we are employing help achieve these goals? If you were teaching HEHD 892 in an online format and you had the same course goals, what technologies and/or learning strategies would you employ to achieve them?
    D. What other thoughts do you have this week? Feel free to talk about your projects, ongoing technology issues, ask questions – whatever! As always, I’ve enjoyed reading these reflections each week, and the information is useful to me especially as I consider new and different uses of technology in our program.

    1. Instrumentation
In your instrumentation section, begin to conceptualize the protocols that you will use to collect and record the data that you will collect.
    A. If you are going to be collecting observational data, what is the protocol that you will use to record your observations? How will you organize observational data (reflective notes, demographic information, etc.) Will you use a specific “checklist” as you conduct observations (things you are looking for specifically) or will your observations be more open and reflective?
