Parents need to know and understand how important it is that they are active in communicating with the teacher, the administration, and various community members. Students are less likely to get into trouble when parents and community members are involved. This is by far one of the hardest things to convince parents of...today, many parents just assume that the school is there to raise their kids and teach them how to behave and why.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"25215569","body":"You stated something that was key - "the school is there to raise their kids". It is hard for me to grasp when you call home and parents are upset when you try to give them a heads up to help their child. I hope I get great information and tools to use to recruit parental involvement.","dateCreated":"1276641205","smartDate":"Jun 15, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"HEHD-892-Neely","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/HEHD-892-Neely","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1274661004\/HEHD-892-Neely-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"25044511","dateCreated":"1276034872","smartDate":"Jun 8, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"kbfranklin","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/kbfranklin","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1274102376\/kbfranklin-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/hehd-892-neely.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/25044511"},"dateDigested":1531982453,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Survey Return","description":"Hey Shantiqua,
\n
\nHave you considered having the parents return the surveys to the school? Is that a possibility? Do you think that would increase the return rate if the student is not responsible for returning it?
\n
\nI am very interested in your topic and look forward to your research!","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"25114233","body":"This is a good point Karen - Shantiqua, you might want to consider another method for returning the surveys - students may not be reliable in returning them. I'm not sure dropping them off at the school is a great idea, because of the potential barriers there (transportation, time, convenience, etc.). But there may be other ways to get the surveys returned (pre-paid postage, etc.). Something to consider and think about here...","dateCreated":"1276204897","smartDate":"Jun 10, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"barce14","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/barce14","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1276195390\/barce14-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"25203905","body":"Just out of experience, this is a good idea. I have used both. I give students a take home folder that goes with them atthe end of the day and is returned each day. this works well. I have also requested that parents return particular forms to the front office or send a stamped\/addressed envelop for them to mail it back. You can also try using some sort of incentive...students can get some sort of treat...set up so that the top 5 classes to bring in the most surveys gets an icecream party or pizza party. The schools usually go along with these incentives. As far as incentives for parents you could use coupons from local vendors or restaurants. Just an idea.","dateCreated":"1276609571","smartDate":"Jun 15, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"hehd-892-hartley1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/hehd-892-hartley1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1273432270\/hehd-892-hartley1-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"25215717","body":"Thank you all for your suggestions. I was going to have the students take them home as one of the option. If they return it, then I was going to put their name in hat for a prize. I was going to follow-up and have a parent workshop and ask them to fill it out at the meeting.","dateCreated":"1276641898","smartDate":"Jun 15, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"HEHD-892-Neely","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/HEHD-892-Neely","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1274661004\/HEHD-892-Neely-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
